Anybody else think this line opened significantly short?
Wazzu is rebuilding on offense. They had trouble moving the ball and scoring on IDAHO at a quasi-home game. Kagle put up sub-par numbers. However, Wazzu's D remains top-notch. Wazzu has never done well on the road, and now they have to make a very rare trip to a venue like TD Jesus. Wazzu is breaking in a new head coach.
ND's D is reputed to be one of the top, if not THE top D in the nation this year. In addition, Ty Willingham, formerly of Stanford, is very familiar with Wazzu and the Pac 10. ND is probably a legit BCS team because of their D and tough schedule. Top notch recruits have been flocking to play under Ty. ND's offense is nothing special, but they have enough returning starters to get the job done. Huge edge to ND on special teams as ND is on par with VT for ability to score on ST and D.
I think the linesmakers are way off here. By hanging this number, they are basically saying Wazzu and ND are about the same (giving the 5 points for the home field). Obviously, I think ND is a top tier national team and Wazzu is a mid-level Pac 10 team. I was expecting a line of at least 13.
I predict ND 24, Wazzu 10.
